'Drinking Club With a Running Problem' passing through neighborhood today

Today, Saturday, you may notice packs of runners, some decked out in silly costumes, running through the neighborhood.

The Hash House Harriers, a running club where participants also drink beer, was participating in a run and scavenger hunt in our neighborhood. The runners ultimate destination was Elliott Bay Brewery for post-run festivities.

So if you come across a pack of mildly rowdy runners, some trying to coax you into an awkward position for extra scavenger-hunt points, don't worry (too much).

The objectives of the Hash House Harriers as recorded on the club registration card dated 1950 are:

  • To promote physical fitness among our members
  • To get rid of weekend hangovers
  • To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
  • To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel
