RE: Former Fire Station 39

Dear Community Member:

You are receiving this notice because you previously provided input to the City’s analysis of reuse and/or disposition options for the former Fire Station 39 property, or because of prior interest in this property. Per the City’s adopted “Procedures for Evaluation of the Reuse and Disposal of the City’s Real Property,” the Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) has considered the input received from the community and City departments, and has completed its preliminary analysis of the options.

FAS will recommend to the City Council that former Fire Station 39 property be redeveloped as housing for homeless families and families earning less than 30% of median income, with ground floor space used for programs serving the broader community and building residents.

The enclosed Preliminary Report describes the analysis of reuse and disposition options for the former fire station. A Public Involvement Plan (PIP), outlining the remaining steps for review, community input and decision-making, is included in the Preliminary Report. The Preliminary Report and PIP are also available online at http://www.seattle.gov/realestate/fs39.htm.

We welcome comments about the Preliminary Report and the Proposed Public Involvement Plan. Comments received by June 30, 2011, will be incorporated into documentation presented to the City Council before it reviews and approves the Public Involvement Plan. Any final decision by the Council will happen after the next round of public involvement, likely in late 2012 or early 2013.

Please send your comments to Rich Gholaghong by phone (206- 684-0701), by e-mail at richard.gholaghong@seattle.gov or by regular mail to Rich Gholaghong, FAS Real Estate Services, P.O. Box 94689, Seattle WA 98124-4689. We continually track comments, and all comments received become part of the public record and will be incorporated into future public involvement reports.

Thank you for your input and interest to date.

Neighborhood Garage Sales schedueld for June 9th

It's that time of year when we try to organize our lives, clean out closets, sheds and garages, and sort through all the stuff we have collected over the years.

It's also that time of year for Saturday morning garage sales!

So here is the plan:

On Saturday, June 9th, we will host the first annual Douglas Park Cooperative Garage Sales. Sales will be advertised as beginning at 9 a.m.

How to participate:

Send us an email with the nearest cross streets or the address of your sale, and maybe even a couple photos of your best items. We will advertise the community garage sale on Craigslist, neighborhood blogs, social media and post flyers around Lake City.

We will list on our site and on Craigslist where to find all the sales and show some of the featured items. We also encourage neighbors visit each others' sales and to maybe even engage in some good ol' fashioned barter.

There has been interest from a few neighbors so far. We welcome everyone in our community to participate in this event. Lets make it a success as we continue to strengthen our community.

You have one more weekend to get some spring cleaning done!

In case you are missing a rat…

We have seen these flyers posted on poles around our neighborhood over the last few days.

The rat featured on the flyer seems seems to be pretty cute and seems suspiciously familiar.  We are guessing that he must be missing from a Disney cartoon.

But just in case you are missing a pet rat you might want to check one of the flyers around the neighborhood.

A flyer on 25th Avenue NE is shown on Tuesday

Note: If you are ever missing a pet or find a lost pet you can share a photo with us and we will post it for neighbors. You can send it here douglasparkcooperative@gmail.com
