RE: Former Fire Station 39

Dear Community Member:

You are receiving this notice because you previously provided input to the City’s analysis of reuse and/or disposition options for the former Fire Station 39 property, or because of prior interest in this property. Per the City’s adopted “Procedures for Evaluation of the Reuse and Disposal of the City’s Real Property,” the Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) has considered the input received from the community and City departments, and has completed its preliminary analysis of the options.

FAS will recommend to the City Council that former Fire Station 39 property be redeveloped as housing for homeless families and families earning less than 30% of median income, with ground floor space used for programs serving the broader community and building residents.

The enclosed Preliminary Report describes the analysis of reuse and disposition options for the former fire station. A Public Involvement Plan (PIP), outlining the remaining steps for review, community input and decision-making, is included in the Preliminary Report. The Preliminary Report and PIP are also available online at http://www.seattle.gov/realestate/fs39.htm.

We welcome comments about the Preliminary Report and the Proposed Public Involvement Plan. Comments received by June 30, 2011, will be incorporated into documentation presented to the City Council before it reviews and approves the Public Involvement Plan. Any final decision by the Council will happen after the next round of public involvement, likely in late 2012 or early 2013.

Please send your comments to Rich Gholaghong by phone (206- 684-0701), by e-mail at richard.gholaghong@seattle.gov or by regular mail to Rich Gholaghong, FAS Real Estate Services, P.O. Box 94689, Seattle WA 98124-4689. We continually track comments, and all comments received become part of the public record and will be incorporated into future public involvement reports.

Thank you for your input and interest to date.

  1. I got one of these in my inbox too. I see it says:

"Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) has considered the input received from the community and City departments, and has completed its preliminary analysis of the options.

FAS will recommend to the City Council that former Fire Station 39 property be redeveloped as housing for homeless families and families earning less than 30% of median income, with ground floor space used for programs serving the broader community and building residents. "

There's not any acknowledgment about any of the community's input in this response; it seems to be exactly what the city's plan was at the beginning. It's hard not to get discouraged, and wonder what we need to do to have a true voice. Sigh.
